White dust in attic.
White dust is usually caused by mineral content in the water that goes into a humidifier.
After all some mold shows up as a white powdery material but more often in a crawl space than an attic.
It is difficult to declare this one substance over another simply based on one s senses of sight or smell.
The client will certainly expect an explanation for this white material on the roof rafters in the attic.
When the mist lands on furniture or other surfaces and dries it can sometimes leave behind the dried mineral deposits or white dust.
When looking for attic mold trace both leak areas and areas of poor ventilation in the attic.
The house was originally built in 1979 but the powder was also in areas of the attic which were added later due to additions.
This is why it s less common to see mold growth on base trim after a flooding event.

I found this white powdery substance on some of the sheets of plywood and covering the attic insulation.
In the attic photograph at left we show a mix of green gray and white attic mold.
The photo at page top shows white attic mold on the roof sheathing and rafters and some brown or black mold on the attic side of ceiling drywall where we pulled back insulation.
What does attic mold look like.
When drywood termites eat through the wood in your home they can create tiny exit holes and push out their excrement which is called termite frass.
There was some moisture damage but the powder was in other areas also.
